This is the story of two city girls (well, one is half country girl) moving from the city to the country. But this is really God’s story. We bought this house for the sole purpose of dedicating it to God and for Him to use it for His glory. Please join us in praying for God to use it in a very special way. It all belongs to Him.

For everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. (1 Chronicles 29:11)

Life in the Country -Celebrating 2 Years

Two years ago today my life changed forever.  It may not seem like a big event to some but it was to me.  Two years ago today we bought a home in the country and I became a country girl.

I have lived in the city my whole life.  I used to visit my aunt's farm as a kid and I always liked the country but never really thought about moving there.  Then a few years ago I started getting the itch to get away from the noise, crime, and traffic.  Ok, so I got two out of three since I still drive an hour to and from work. Maybe someday I can remove that stress too.

Anyway, we found this house by what most people would call “chance.”  But we really know who found this house for us.  We had been looking and looking and just couldn’t find the right fit.  Cindy told me later that she knew in her heart that when we found the right house, the owner would be the one to walk us through it.  How she knew that I don’t know but that is exactly what happened.

We found our house when we quit looking.

We were discussing our frustration one evening and said, “Well maybe we should just quit looking.”  So that is what we did.  We told our realtor that we wanted to take a break from looking. Then my friend Sue sent me a message saying that she had just been to a friend’s house for a big chili dinner and they happened to be selling.  She said it was a perfect fit for us.  We decided that it wouldn't hurt to just look at it. The owners just happened to be available that evening. The owner was also the realtor and they invited us to come by and she would walk us through it.

Our road home.
That evening we took a beautiful fall drive out into the country to see a house with a great big barn (all 6,000 square feet of it) in a little town called Ashville. The owners were a very sweet Christian couple who shared the history of the home with us along with some family stories and traditions.  The house was a ranch style with just over 1 acre, a big front porch, and right around the corner from my friend Sue.

This was the house for us. We knew it instantly.

Moving in!
Two years later, we now live in that home and we absolutely love it.  It wasn’t without some problems/issues and I have learned that living in the country is a lot of work.  But I wouldn’t trade it for the world, OK, maybe I would trade it for a house on the beach in Bora Bora but that is another story.

I am so grateful to God for providing such a wonderful home.  He owns it all and our desire is to share our home with others and to use it for God's glory. I'm also grateful for Sue and for our new friends Barb and Bobby (the former owners) and to all of the people who have come out to visit. A house is just a house but it becomes a home when we can share it with others.

I pray we will have many years and make many more memories there.

Projects

Our lives are full of projects. It seems like we finish one and start 3 more. Here are a few little things we have been working on lately...

We found a cheap picnic table at Loews for $99 and with a little bit of apple cider/steel wool stain and paint, it looks pretty good.

Here are a few before and afters of the house.

We put in two wildflower gardens.  Most of them have already
sprouted so we will see how they look in the spring.

Found this cute bench at a thrift store

This cute ladder too

Barn Dance?

Last weekend we were invited to attend the Ashville 3rd Annual Old Fashioned Barn Dance.  It was our first.

I wasn't sure what to expect but what a hoot!

Most of the food was home made and out of this world.

Then we worked off the calories by square dancing.
Yes, square dancing.

There were a few wall flowers (for a while anyway).

It wasn't pretty but we had fun.

I love our small town.
I can't wait until next year!

Scenes From The Country

There is no special reason for this post other than to share a few photos that we've taken lately. Sometimes I just need a place to house them or share them.  They make me smile.

Everything about living in the country makes me smile. I am so very thankful to God for allowing us to enjoy the many blessings of living in the country.

I love the fresh air, the smell, the quiet, the stars, the wildlife, the colors, sitting on the front porch, bonfires, and yes, even the farm machinery that seems to take over our road during harvest time.

Of course, our fur and feather kids add a lot of enjoyment to the country life.

Oh and let's not forget FRESH EGGS!

Most of all, I love the sunrise.  There is something about the start of a new day that warms my heart.

Thanks God.
